Trevor Sinclair is a 49 years old former football player whose soccer career spans through EPL. Trevor has been condemned for his tweet after Buckingham Palace announced the death of the Queen Elizabeth.
On Thursday evening, at 6 pm UK time, Buckingham Palace released a statement that read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
After the news broke, the world began to pay tributes to the United Kingdom’s longest-serving monarch.
However, Trevor Sinclair’s tweet received major backlash.
The former England international wrote on his official Twitter account: “Racism was outlawed in England in the 60s & it’s been allowed to thrive so why should black & brown mourn!”
As expected, many people began to reply to Sinclair, declaring their displeasure over the tweet.
One person replied: “Unbelievable. Disgusting. Unfollowed.”
Another said: “State of this tweet. You can think of what you want of the monarchy, and choose not to mourn, it’s your choice, but why feel the need to tweet about it?”
A third added: “Absolute embarrassment of a tweet. Hold your head in shame and while you’re at it, hand back your caps for England for saying that. Clearly looking for clickbait at a time of national pain.”
Sinclair has been working as a pundit for radio station talkSPORT in recent years. Many called for the station to sack Sinclair on the back of his tweet.
TalkSPORT has since said: “We have been trying to make contact with Trevor Sinclair following opinions expressed on his Twitter account. talkSPORT does not support those views expressed and is investigating the matter.”
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, who is a colleague of Sinclair’s at talkSPORT said: “Trev, I’m really not sure that is an appropriate thought, let alone tweet. The country has lost a very significant person and respect and value should be the overriding sentiments, not division!”
Sinclair’s tweet has since been deleted and his Twitter account is now inactive.
