Toni Street was born on September 8, 1983 (age 38 years) in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Her parents are Wendy Street and Geoff Street. She has three siblings Tracy Street, Lance Street, and Stephen Street
She was born a twin with her brother Lance Street, who died of leukaemia when they were both 18 months old. She grew up in Taranaki, and attended Highlands Intermediate School and also New Plymouth Girls’ High School, and was head girl in her last year.
Toni attended Lincoln University on a sports scholarship and studied commerce. In 2005 she studied for a postgraduate diploma in journalism at the University of Canterbury. After six years of poor health, and the removal of her gallbladder, she was diagnosed with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis in 2015.
Television career
Toni Street initially joined Television New Zealand (TVNZ) in 2006 on a six-month internship. She was the presenter for TVNZ’s coverage of the ANZ Championship and international netball. She assumed the reins from the TVNZ duo of Lavina Good and Brendan Telfer, who both stood down after the completion of National Bank Cup netball in 2007.
Toni Street was part of TVNZ’s commentary team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She was to be part of TVNZ’s commentary team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London but dropped out when she discovered she was pregnant.
In 2010, TVNZ lost the rights for netball coverage and Street moved into a senior role with One News, as a head sports reporter and substitute presenter for the sports bulletin.

In September 2011, TVNZ established Saturday Breakfast, a weekend version of Breakfast, and Street was appointed co-presenter alongside Rawdon Christie and later alongside Tamati Coffey. She was also a backup presenter for the weekday Breakfast. In September 2012, Street took maternity leave and was replaced by finance presenter Nadine Chalmers-Ross for two months until the show was cancelled.
In 2013, Street replaced Petra Bagust as permanent co-host of the weekday Breakfast, alongside her former Saturday Breakfast co-host Rawdon Christie. In 2014, she and Mike Hosking joined Jesse Mulligan on the Seven Sharp panels.
Book
Toni Street had decided to write about in her book, Lost and Found: My story of heartbreak and hope. Taking to Instagram to announce the exciting news, Toni said: “Writing a book was honestly never on my radar, but a couple of years ago I was asked to talk about my experience with surrogacy and I thought it was something that could be really useful (there was only one Kiwi story for us to use as reference when we had Lachie).
“I quickly realised that writing about our surrogacy journey in isolation was impossible – it had to include why we needed to use a surrogate (my auto-immune disease, and ongoing battle to keep good health), and why we were so motivated to have a big family (the death of my three siblings).

She continued: “My mum Wendy encouraged me to talk about our family’s grief as she thought it would be cathartic for me, and I hope it has been for Mum and Dad too. They have opened up about their harrowing experience of losing three children. Many things they shared with me I didn’t know before.
“And with the blessing and help of Sophie Braggins we’ve gone into detail about the surrogacy process, and the emotional rollercoaster that goes with it.”

Toni Street is married to her longtime boyfriend Matt France, they had their wedding in December 2009. Street and her husband have two daughters, Juliette, born in October 2012 and Mackenzie born in March 2015. Toni Street’s husband Matt France was born on February 25, 1987 (age 34 years).
Toni was determined to raise her own large family, with her husband Matt France. But after giving birth to their second child, she became seriously unwell and was admitted to hospital, in agony. Eventually diagnosed with a rare immune disease, Churg-Strauss syndrome, she had her gall bladder removed, and is on permanent medication.
As a result, she and Matt found that she was unable to carry another child. Desperate for the large family that her parents missed out on, Toni’s dream for a third child was realised by her best friend, who offered to be her and Matt’s surrogate. Toni and her family’s story is one of almost unbelievable trial and tragedy but also love, determination and incredible resilience.
