Nicholas Beverley Joicey CB was born on May 11, 1970 (age 52 years) in Guisborough, United Kingdom. He is the son of British parents Harold Beverley and Wendy Joicey. He was educated at Wintringham School, Grimsby. He studied for a degree in history at Bristol University and then completed a Ph.D. at Peterhouse, Cambridge.
Career
Nicholas Joicey worked at The Observer newspaper from 1995 to 1996. He then moved to the Treasury, working as Private Secretary and Speech-writer to Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown between 1999 and 2001.

Joicey was part of a United Kingdom delegation to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington from 2001 to 2003, heading the EU policy team from 2004 to 2006.
