Haroun Bouazzi was born in 1979 to Tunisian parents. He moved to Quebec at the age of 20 to study there, and his first appearances in the Quebec and Canadian media date back to his commitment against the Ben Ali dictatorship in 2010.
Bouazzi was then the spokesperson for the Collective of Solidarity in Canada with the social struggles in Tunisia. The day after the fall of the dictator, the mobilization in which he took part demanded the freezing of the assets of the Ben Ali – Trabelsi families and led, with the help of Canadian parliamentarians, to the decision of Stephen Harper’s government changes Canadian legislation to combat corruption and the embezzlement of repressive heads of state.

He later co-founded AMAL-Quebec (Association of Muslims and Arabs for Secularism in Quebec), an association that calls itself “feminist and plural” and whose name means hope in Arabic. In 2015, he was one of 40 people whose contribution to the advancement of rights and freedoms in Quebec was recognized by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse du Québec.
