Azamati Breaks 22 Year Old 100m Record

Benjamin Azamati has broken Ghana’s 22 year old 100m record after he run one hundredth of second faster than Leonard Myles-Mills’ 9.98 seconds.

Azamati finished ahead of the pack in heat 8 of the Texas relays on Friday afternoon in a time of 9.97 seconds, and in the process qualified to compete at the Tokyo Olympic games.

He also becomes the first NCAADII athlete to run under 10 seconds and broke Darell Green’s 10.08 seconds record set in 1983

The former University of Ghana student is also the first man to go sub 10 in the year 2021.

He joins John Paul Amoah and Nadia Eke as the Ghanaian sprinters to have qualified so far for the summer Olympics.
