In this article, you get to know the about Shirley Dorismond, the former health official who won the Marie-Victorin elections.

Dear union representatives,
Dear allies,

I am a feminist, unionist, humanist, and social justice advocate. These values are what led me to submit my candidacy for the FIQ Executive Committee in 2017 and they are what drive me to seek your trust a second time to continue my union engagement.

The Regroupement des FIQ, composed mostly of women, works daily to promote a more fair, equitable, inclusive society that is free of violence. I have been a union rep for 14 years and a nurse clinician for over 20 years. I spent my life not only defending but promoting these values.

Together, we adopted the first policy on the Fair Representation of Women in Positions of Power and Decision-Mak ing at the RFIQ. This policy promotes solidarity in feminism and reflects member representation at all levels of power. During my mandate, I have pursued all projects with solidarity, transparency, and inclusion.

This pandemic has had a crucial impact on our humanity. Political and economic choices have exacerbated social inequalities, not to mention healthcare professionals’ suffering and distress every day. As a union, we have made some good moves and encountered major challenges in the management of this crisis. We must ask for transparency and humility from ourselves and others in order to admit that we strayed at certain times. With that, I humbly propose my campaign slogan: BOUNCE BACK!

To bounce back, we will return to our foundation with an even greater listening capacity. This way, we will recognize the diversity of our members and their concerns. We will also develop an intersectional, feminist approach while pursuing the transversal perspective of the status of women. A perspective that will guide us in our negotiations and labour relations and that strengthens our feminist union approach.

BOUNCING BACK TOGETHER, NOT LIMITING WHAT WE CAN ACCOMPLISH, AND STRONGLY BELIEVING IT!
